The Hungarian parliament failed on Monday to hold a vote on Sweden's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) due to a lack of a quorum as Prime Minister Viktor Orban's party, Fidesz, boycotted the process.
Mate Kocsis, member of the National Assembly and mayor of Budapest's district of Jozsefvaros, wrote on social media that Sweden, if it wants to join the alliance, must respect Hungary the same way it did it Turkey and send its Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to meet with Orban and discuss the matter in person.
Hungary thus remains the only member of NATO that has not ratified Sweden's entry into the group.
