Senator Durbin urges Visa not to raise card fees - report

United States senator from Illinois, Dick Durbin, has urged Visa Inc. and Mastercard Inc. not to increase card fees, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing a letter by the lawmaker the outlet reviewed.

The planned increases would eventually hurt shoppers, as the costs would "trickle down," the outlet quoted the letter as saying.

According to earlier reports, Visa and Mastercard are preparing to raise fees that merchants pay when they accept payments by credit cards.
