British Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt stated on Wednesday following the release of the latest consumer prices report that although any decline in inflation is welcome, the country has "a plan to go further and halve [it] this year, reduce debt, and grow the economy."

"High inflation is a nightmare for family budgets, destroys business investment and leads to strike action, so however tough, we need to stick to our plan to bring it down. It is vital that we make the difficult decisions needed and see the plan through," Hunt underlined in a statement.

The Office for National Statistics announced earlier that the annual inflation in the country for December 2022 clocked in at 10.5%, slightly decreasing from November's reading of 10.7%.
