IAEA: Persian Gulf radiation levels 'normal'

EPA/YOAN VALAT

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said on Friday in a statement that the radiation levels in the Persian Gulf "remain normal," following strikes that led to severe damage of several Iranian nuclear facilities.

Grossi revealed that the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant and the Tehran Research Reactor were IAEA's biggest concerns from a nuclear safety perspective. He explained that any strike on these facilities "could have caused a radiological accident with potential consequences in Iran as well as beyond its borders."

However, Grossi reassured the public that the worst scenario was avoided and this infrastructure remains intact. The IAEA head insisted that the agency's inspectors need to continue their verification activities in Iran.
