International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said on Monday that "very significant damage" is expected at Iran's Fordow nuclear facility following strikes by the United States, based on the "extreme vibration-sensitive nature of centrifuges." However, he stressed the IAEA is not in a position to fully assess the extent of the damage.
Grossi said additional buildings were hit at the Esfahan nuclear site, as well as entrances to tunnels used for the storage of enriched material. At Natanz, the US strike damaged the fuel enrichment plant. According to official information from Iran, there was no increase in off-site radiation levels at all three sites. Grossi insisted on a return to diplomacy, without which "violence and destruction could reach unimaginable levels and the global non-proliferation regime that has underpinned international security for more than half a century could crumble and fall."
