International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) shared on Monday that it is collaborating with Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) to boost "performance and power efficiency for Gen AI [generative artificial intelligence] models" for enterprise customers.
Starting in the first half of 2025, AMD Instinct MI300X accelerators will be deployed as a service on IBM Cloud. "This collaboration will also enable support for AMD Instinct MI300X accelerators within IBM's watsonx AI and data platform, as well as Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI inferencing support," IBM detailed in a statement.
With businesses continuing to incorporate AI models and datasets into their routines, "it is critical that the accelerators within the system can process compute-intensive workloads with high performance and flexibility to scale," AMD's Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Philip Guido commented.
