The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday that it worked with Shin Bet and eliminated the head of Hamas' Nukhba cell, Hamza Wael Muhammad Asafah, who the military claimed was a part of the October 7 attack and the hostage release ceremony.

"He had infiltrated Israeli territory and participated in the murderous massacre on October 7. As part of his role in the organization, the terrorist also took part in the cynical release ceremonies for returning civilians Eliyahu Sharabi, Ohad Ben Ami, and Or Levy," the IDF and Shin Bet spokespersons said in a joint statement.

The Israeli army stated that Asafah was killed during a strike in the central Gaza Strip and noted that "steps were taken to minimize the risk of harm to civilians" before the attack.
