The International Olympic Committee (IOC) conditionally awarded the 2030 Winter Olympics to the French Alps on Wednesday. According to today's decision, the final approval is pending the new French government's provision of the necessary financial guarantees within the deadlines specified by the IOC.
"I confirm the full commitment of the French nation and assure you that I will ask the next Prime Minister to include not only this guarantee but also an Olympic Law in the priorities of the new government. Seven years ago, we made the same commitment, and we delivered. We will do the same," French President Emmanuel Macron stated. Later, the IOC confirmed Salt Lake City as the host of the 2034 edition.
The decision was taken with 84 votes in favor and only four against. This is the fourth time the Winter Games have been attributed to France, after Chamonix 1924, Grenoble 1968, and Albertville 1992.
