Indian Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra said on Friday that his government is considering cutting the wheat import duty due to a sharp increase in wheat prices on the domestic market, the Hindustan Times reported. The duty currently stands at 40%.
The report also cited an unnamed source as saying that the Indian government is also considering authorizing higher stock-holding limits as a measure to bring down prices. Chopra added India does not plan to enter into a wheat import agreement with Russia.
