Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva pledged Thursday to take "all appropriate measures" to protect the country from US tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. Speaking at an event marking his administration's two-year anniversary, Lula stressed Brazil's commitment to sovereignty and trade equality.
"We do not give up our sovereignty," Lula declared, adding that Brazil demands reciprocity in international relations. He criticized US protectionism and vowed to respond to the 10% tariff on Brazilian exports. "We will defend our businesses and workers," he said.
Brazil is exploring all options, including bringing the matter to the World Trade Organization (WTO), while remaining open to dialogue with the US, the Foreign Ministry mentioned earlier, calling it a violation of WTO commitments.
