Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged the United Nations Security Council to recognize the United States and Israel as "initiators" of the 12-day conflict in a letter published on Sunday.

"We officially request hereby that the Security Council recognise the Israeli regime and the United States as the initiators of the act of aggression and acknowledge their subsequent responsibility, including the payment of compensation and reparations," Araghchi wrote in the letter.

The Iranian foreign minister said that "ignoring this aggression" would undermine the credibility of the United Nations and pose a "serious threat" to the rule of law. Araghchi also urged the UN to take measures to prevent the "recurrence of such grave and heinous crimes."
