Iran negates Red Sea ship seizure involvement

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani insisted on Monday, speaking at a press briefing, that Tehran took no part in the seizure of a cargo ship in the Red Sea.

"We have said multiple times that resistance groups in the region act independently and spontaneously based on their interests and that of their people," Kanaani underlined, adding that the goal of Israel's comments on the topic was to avert attention away from its "irreparable defeat" in the battle with Hamas.

Previously, Yemen's Houthi rebels took hold of the cargo ship, that was later confirmed to be operated by Nippon Yusen, a Japanese company.
