United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an immediate cessation of violence in Tripoli, Libya following violent clashes between militias that resulted in at least 23 dead and over 140 wounded.

Guterres urged the Libyan parties "to engage in a genuine dialogue to address the ongoing political impasse and not to use force to resolve their differences." He also called on the opposing factions to "refrain from taking any actions that could escalate tensions and deepen divisions." Libya has seen two civil wars since leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed in 2011.
