Iran said to have named new foreign minister

The Islamic Consultative Assembly named diplomat Abbas Araghchi (pictured) the country's new foreign minister, the Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) was the first to report on Wednesday.

Araghchi previously served as the Foreign Ministry's spokesperson and Iran's ambassador to Finland, Estonia, and Japan.

The naming came following the death of Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a plane crash. In the meantime, Ali Bagheri served as interim minister.
