Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh announced on Tuesday that Tehran placed multiple outgoing and former United States government officials on a sanctions list, including President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
In addition, Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller, former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, Central Intelligence Agency Director Gina Haspel, former National Security Advisor John Bolton, US Special Representative for Iran and Venezuela Elliott Abrams and former US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook have also been sanctioned by Tehran.
The US officials have been accused by Iran of "committing terrorist crimes, promoting and supporting terrorism, which poses a serious threat to regional and international peace and security, as well as violating the fundamental principles of international law, including human rights."
