Iran's Defense Ministry announced on Thursday the fourth generation of its Khorramshahr ballistic missile named Khaibar, capable of traveling 2,000 kilometers while carrying a 1,500 kg warhead. According to a report published by the Iranian state media IRNA, the military has successfully test-launched the missile.
The rocket can be deployed in less than 12 minutes and guided mid-flight while reaching speeds of up to eight Mach in the Earth's atmosphere and 16 Mach outside the atmosphere. "Iran's newest ballistic missile and the latest product of the Defense Ministry's Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO) was unveiled today in a ceremony attended by the defense minister," the media said.
Tehran has recently stepped up efforts to develop its missile program despite opposition from the West, claiming it will use it only for deterrence.
