Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned on Friday against "destructive interference" in Syria's internal affairs and insisted that the decisions concerning that country should lie with its people.

In his written piece published in China's People's Daily, Aragchi stressed his support for Syria's "unity, national sovereignty and territorial integrity."

Iran previously supported the ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad but later pledged its support for the country. Meanwhile, the new Syrian regime warned Tehran not to "spread chaos, destabilize security and create sectarian strife" there.
