Iranian Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna Reza Najafi said on Monday that commitment of Iran to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is "unjustified" when the rights of NPT members are disrespected.
"When the rights and obligations of NPT members are not respected in a balanced manner, and when some aggressor regimes freely commit aggression and threats against committed members without membership in the NPT, the continuation of voluntary commitments will be unjustified," Najafi remarked in his statement at the meeting of the IAEA's board of governors. He also criticized the international body for its lack of action, saying that it didn't only "tarnished the credibility of the IAEA, but has emboldened the Israeli regime to commit acts of aggression."
Najafi concluded that Iran has the right to defend itself within the framework of the United Nations, NPT and IAEA, adding that Tehran will be taking countermeasures.
