Iranian Armed Forces General Staff Chief, Major General Mohammad Bagheri (pictured left), claimed on Monday that some foreign countries, which he described as enemies, encouraged civil protests in the Islamic Republic by smuggling weapons into its territory.
Speaking at a cultural event in Tehran, Bagheri also claimed the so-called enemies worked through their espionage and intelligence services to inspire the public to hold demonstrations in their effort to "conquer the world." "That is why they mobilized all of their facilities and capabilities against the Iranian nation in order to obstruct the Islamic Revolution's progress," he said while stressing that those attempts ended in failure.
Bagheri's comments came amid the still ongoing protests in Iran that began in September after the death of Mahsa Amini, who was reported to have died in custody following her arrest for allegedly disobeying the country's mandatory hijab law.
