Iran's army disclosed that the initial report determined there was no indication of foul play in the helicopter crash that ended the lives of Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi, his foreign minister, and six other officials, Iranian state news agencies IRNA and Tasnim reported on Friday.
According to the report, the helicopter transporting the high-ranking officials crashed while following its predetermined path and the remaining wreckage did not display any bullet holes or evidence of a similar collision. Furthermore, the aircraft caught fire upon impact with a mountain, making it harder to locate and reach, the report added.
The wreckage was found around 5:00 am (local time) following its crash in the vicinity of Varzaqan, located in the East Azerbaijan province of Iran. Rescuers managed to reach the crash site situated at an elevation of 2,500 km after approximately 40 minutes.
