Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh (pictured) claimed on Tuesday that Tehran has "received messages from the United States in recent days" that it is "interested in returning to the negotiating table."

"Of course, you know that there was a negotiating table and we were in the middle of negotiations when they attacked this negotiating table," Khatibzadeh insisted at a press conference. "Every negotiation requires a minimum. There must be a minimum of trust. ... These must be rebuilt, and America's responsibility in violating Iran's national sovereignty is unforgivable, but, diplomacy has always been the fundamental principle of the Islamic Republic of Iran's foreign policy.

Previously, US President Donald Trump said that Iran has reached out to ask for new negotiations, which Tehran later denied.
