Tokyo inflation rises to 4.4% in January

The annual inflation rate in the Japanese capital increased further in January compared to the previous month, reaching 4.4% three weeks ahead of the release of the consumer price index (CPI) data on the national level.

Excluding food prices, Tokyo's consumer prices grew by 4.3% year-on-year. In the same period, the CPI rose by 3% excluding food and energy prices. Tokyo's inflation neared a 42-year high in the latest update.

The seasonally adjusted industrial production index in Japan observed a monthly decrease of 1.1% to land at 101.1 in March.
