The Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that the Iranian Consulate in the Syrian city of Aleppo was attacked amid renewed rebel activity in the country. The ministry added there were no casualties among the consulate staff.
A ministry spokesperson condemned the attack, stating it was carried out by "some armed terrorist elements" but without naming a particular group. "Any violation of diplomatic places by any individual, group, or government is unacceptable according to the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations," the spokesperson said.
