Iraq, Turkey discuss joint oil, energy cooperation

EPA/MOHAMMED JALIL

Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil Hayan Abdul Ghan met with his Turkish counterpart Alparslan Bayraktar on Tuesday to discuss ways how to improve the two countries' cooperation in the oil and energy sector, the Iraqi ministry disclosed on Tuesday.

According to the statement by the Iraqi embassy to Ankara given to the state media the day before, the Iraqi minister's visit to the Turkish capital is aimed at conducting negotiations regarding bilateral relations and resumption of oil exports through the Turkish port of Ceyhan.

In March, Turkey halted the flow of 450,000 barrels per day (bpd) of Iraqi exports via the northern Iraq-Turkey pipeline following the International Chamber of Commerce's (ICC) arbitration ruling.
