The International Court of Justice (ICJ) said on Tuesday that Ireland filed to intervene in South Africa's case against Israel over allegations of genocide.
In the filing submitted on Monday, Ireland stated it still condemns Hamas' "heinous terror attack" on Israel on October 7, 2023, but asked the court to broaden its interpretation of what constitutes the commission of genocide when considering Israel's actions in Gaza.
South Africa filed the case against Israel in December 2023 and the court ordered Israel to take "all measures within its power to prevent" genocide during its response in Gaza, but South Africa insisted Israel has failed to abide by that order. Turkey joined the case in August.
