Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach) Micheal Martin remarked on Wednesday that Dublin supports Ukraine's candidacy for the European Union.
"It is the democratic right of Ukraine and the people of Ukraine to decide their political orientation. You have chosen to apply for EU membership. [...] It is in the EU's strategic interest. It is in Ukraine's interest," Martin said after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's address to the Irish parliament, Oireachtas.
Earlier this week, Martin called for stricter sanctions against Russia over the "appalling and barbaric crimes" it reportedly committed in Ukraine. He added he does not rule out the possibility of expelling Moscow's ambassador to Ireland, Yury Filatov.
