Israel labels UN ceasefire call 'lifeline to Hamas'

EPA-EFE/JUSTIN LANE

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has drawn criticism from Mark Regev, a senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who claims that Guterres is providing a "lifeline to Hamas" by advocating for a humanitarian ceasefire.

In an interview with CNN, Regev expressed gratitude to the United States for diplomatic support in preventing a more stringent resolution, as the UN Security Council passed a resolution calling for humanitarian access, but refrained from demanding an immediate ceasefire.

The US, having previously vetoed similar resolutions, abstained this time.
