Israel's independent Civilian Commission of Inquiry published on Tuesday the results of its investigation of the events that led to Hamas's attack on the country on October 7, 2023, and found that the military could have but failed to prevent the event and that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet's response led to the "collapse of the government system."
The report said that many ministries were responsible for the government's "inability to provide a response to the families of the people missing and captive; the lack of response to the needs of combat soldiers to reach the southern and northern fronts; the lack of response and care for the families of the evacuees and their children – in both the north and the south."
The commission blamed the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the country's police for their lack of cooperation, "ignoring all warning lights," and "excessive reliance on technology," with the individuals criticized including former Defense Ministers Yoav Gallant and Benny Gantz, and IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi.
