United States officials have allegedly been told that Israel is now "fully ready" to launch an operation into Iran, which is part of the reason behind Washington's evacuation of diplomatic personnel from Iraq and military families from several bases in the region, CBS News' Jennifer Jacobs reported.
Washington is anticipating that Tehran could retaliate for the Israeli strikes by launching attacks on "certain US sites" in Iraq, Jacobs wrote on X. Even so, White House envoy Steve Witkoff is still planning to attend what is reportedly becoming an "increasingly unlikely" sixth round of US-Iran nuclear talks, scheduled to take place on Sunday.
A previous report suggested that Israel assured the White House it wouldn't attack Iran's nuclear facilities unless US President Donald Trump signals that talks with Tehran reached a dead end.
