Israel reportedly passes regulations for Al Jazeera temporary ban

Israeli government passed on Friday emergency regulations to temporarily ban the Al Jazeera news channel or other foreign news outlets in the country if necessary, according to local media reports.

The government cited threats to national security as a reason why the network should be shut down. The decision must now get the security cabinet's approval. Israeli Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi previously underlined that as the country is at war, it won't allow broadcasters to "harm the security of the state."

"The broadcasts and reports of Al Jazeera constitute incitement against Israel, help Hamas-ISIS and the terror organizations with their propaganda, and encourage violence against Israel," Karhi stated. Under the new regulations, Israel will have the right to ban any Al Jazeera broadcasts, close its offices in the country, take its equipment, as well as shut down or restrict its website.
