Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari revealed in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that 170 Hamas fighters were killed during the operation at the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, which entered its sixth day.
The IDF also apprehended hundreds of "terror suspects with confirmed ties to Hamas," Hagari stated, claiming that "a large number" of them was involved in the planning of the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7. He announced that the operation would continue, as Hamas fighters had barricaded themselves inside the hospital. "They are destroying the Al-Shifa hospital," Hagari stressed, claiming that the group's fighters located outside the hospital are firing mortars at the IDF, damaging the hospital's buildings.
"Since the beginning of the operation, the IDF assisted the sick and the wounded, moving them out of harm's way," he said, emphasizing that Hamas "consistently" uses hospitals to wage war.
