The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Thursday that it carried out a targeted strike against a Palestinian Islamic Jihad command center in Damascus. The facility, allegedly used to coordinate attacks on Israel, was destroyed in the operation.
"The IDF will not allow terrorist organizations to entrench themselves in Syrian territory and operate against the State of Israel, and will respond forcefully to any such entrenchment," the military said.
Reports from Agence France-Presse noted the area is frequented by Palestinian leaders and at least one person was killed in the attack. Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that two missiles were fired by Israeli aircraft.
