The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it launched a ground incursion into southern Lebanon, adding that the operation would be limited in scope.
"A few hours ago, the IDF began limited, localized, and targeted ground raids based on precise intelligence against Hezbollah terrorist targets and infrastructure in southern Lebanon," the IDF said. The targets, located in villages close to the Israeli border, pose "an immediate threat to Israeli communities in northern Israel," the IDF said.
According to the statement, the operation has been planned in recent months and was launched after being approved by political leaders. "The Israeli Air Force and IDF Artillery are supporting the ground forces with precise strikes on military targets in the area," the IDF added.
