The Israeli security cabinet has agreed to a ceasefire agreement to halt the military operation against Hezbollah in Lebanon, CNN reported on Tuesday. According to the network, the information was provided by an Israeli official on condition of anonymity.
The report comes in parallel to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's televised message in which he declared progress in Israel's Middle East offensive, adding that an agreement will offer "a strategic opportunity to secure" Israel's northern border. The deal follows months of intense hostilities, including heavy airstrikes in Beirut and rocket attacks into Israel north.
During his speech, Netanyahu claimed significant strikes against Iran's missile and nuclear capabilities, the dismantling of senior Hamas leadership, and attacks on Hezbollah's infrastructure in Lebanon. "We destroyed thousands of buildings in Beirut and neutralized numerous strategic targets," he said, adding that operations extended to Yemen and Syria. Finally, he stressed the fact that a ceasefire deal in Lebanon means Israel could focus on Iran.
