The Italian unemployment rate stood at 6.5% in May, as the number of unemployed people increased by 113,000, or 0.4 percentage points, according to a preliminary report by Istat released on Wednesday. The number of inactive people dropped by 1.4% or 172,000.
The employment rate added 0.2 percentage points from April, reaching 62.9%. The Italian workforce grew by 408,000, including 388,000 permanent positions.
