Jack Smith reindicts Trump in Jan. 6 case

Special Counsel Jack Smith (pictured) put forward a superseding indictment against former President Donald Trump concerning his suspected efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election on Tuesday.

In the 36-page document which will be presented to a second jury that has not heard the case, the special counsel narrowed down certain allegations against the former president but kept the four counts accusing Trump of leading conspiracy to "defraud" the United States and to subvert the election results. The new indictment removed allegations from the original case that accused Trump of supposedly pressuring the Justice Department to help him overturn the results of the presidential election in 2020.

Last month, the United States Supreme Court partially sided with the former president concerning the 2020 election case led by Special Counsel Jack Smith, noting that Trump should be granted at least "presumptive immunity" from prosecution.
