Japan's producer price index (PPI) rose by 2.4% in May compared to the same time period last year, the Bank of Japan revealed in a report on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, on a monthly basis, the PPI increased by 0.7% compared to last month's figure of 0.3%. Both numbers beat expectations.
The report also shows a 1.9% growth in Japan's export price index on a contractual currency basis over the year, with a 0.1% increase observed on a monthly basis. However, import prices recorded a year-on-year contraction of 3%, while increasing by 0.9% month-on-month.
