Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) issued a note on Tuesday, saying that it has decided to approve Microsoft Corp.'s acquisition of Activision Blizzard Inc., valued at $69 billion.
JFTC shared that it has decided to greenlight the agreement as it concluded the transaction will not lead to "substantially restraining competition in any particular fields of trade" and "falls under the safe harbor criteria for vertical business combinations." For that reason, the Parties have been notified "that the JFTC will not issue a cease and desist order," the watchdog stated.
The Microsoft-Activision deal has been put under scrutiny by various regulators who claimed that such a merger could harm the markets.
