Retail trade in Japan expanded by 3% in May compared to the same month the previous year, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry revealed in the report on Wednesday.
Month-on-month, the figure grew by 1.7%. The results came in above analysts' expectations. Commercial sales jumped 5.6% year-over-year while increasing 2% on a monthly basis.
Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted value of sales in the wholesale industry surged 6.7% compared to May 2023. The figure expanded by 2.3% compared to the month before.
