Japan's ruling coalition is now certain to lose its upper house majority following Sunday's election, which was driven by discontent over inflation and immigration, according to the NHK public broadcaster.
The leader of the Sanseito party, Kamiya Sohei, stated during ballot counting on NHK that his party secured three times more seats than he anticipated.
Earlier, Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba stated that he plans to remain in his position despite his coalition losing its upper house majority.
