Japan issues tsunami alert after 7.5-magnitude earthquake

EUROPEAN MEDITERRANEAN SEISMOLOGICAL CENTRE

Japan Meteorological Agency issued a major tsunami warning after the country was hit by a 7.5-magnitude earthquake on Monday, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) minutes earlier.

The warning was given to the Ishikawa Prefecture, Hokkaido, and the entire west coast of Japan as the tremor struck 52 kilometers away from the city of Anamizu at a depth of 13 kilometers around 4 pm in Japan. An immediate evacuation was ordered in the affected areas.

According to the reports, the tremor was also felt in Tokyo. The earthquake magnitude was first reported to be 7.3 but was later revised to 7.5.

4.9-magnitude earthquake strikes Indonesia
A quake with a magnitude of 4.9 struck Indonesia, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.The incident occurred 155 kilometers west-northwest of Abepura, in the region of Papua, Indonesia, which is home to 62,248 people. The epicenter was registered at a depth of 53.3 kilometers.No casualties or material damage were initially reported following the earthquake.
