Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida vowed Japan's long-term engagement in the reconstruction of Ukraine on Monday during a conference hosted by Japan and attended by Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, ABC News reported.
"The war in Ukraine is still going on at this very moment and the situation is not easy. The promotion of economic reconstruction, however, is not only an investment for the future of Ukraine but also investing in Japan and the whole globe," Kishida stressed, expressing the country's hope that the conference will bring international attention back to Ukraine. The two countries issued a joint statement announcing Japan's support for helping Ukraine achieve economic stability, while also stressing their firm position on "tough" sanctions against Russia.
During the conference, more than 50 deals were signed between Ukrainian and Japanese companies and government agencies.
