Japan's total merchandise trade surplus surprised analysts' projections in December, landing at ¥130.9 billion (~$1.01 billion), according to a report released by the country's Ministry of Finance on Wednesday.
The figure marked an improvement compared to the ¥117.6 billion deficit recorded in November, also rising on yearly basis in contrast with the deficit of ¥58.9 billion seen in December of 2023.
The country's exports for the time period rose 2.8% year-on-year, with imports going up by 1.8% compared to the same month last year.
