Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles (pictured) announced on Sunday that the Japanese amphibious rapid deployment brigade will start regular deployments to Australia and take part in joint military exercises with troops from Australia and the United States. Earlier today, Marles met with US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Japanese Defence Minister Gen Nakatani in Darwin, Australia.
"At the end of the day, this is about building Australian capability. We are clearly able to engage with the friends and allies that we choose and it's really important that we are engaging with both the United States and with Japan," Marles told Sky News Australia. "We are very much wanting to identify ourselves as a country that stands for the global rules-based order."
