Japan to reportedly allow drones to access 5G networks

Japan will allegedly end its prohibition on the usage of 5G wireless communication networks by drones in 2024, Nikkei Asia reported.

In an effort to employ drones in disaster relief missions and infrastructure inspections, the Japanese government will allow drones to access 5G high-speed networks, enabling them to broadcast 4K high-definition video and images, according to the news agency. Devices that can access 5-G networks in Japan's airspace have been banned thus far by radio laws and other various regulations.

This move will aid the Japanese government should any natural disaster occur, as the drones will be able to quickly and accurately transmit images which will help identify the "extent of floods and damage to houses," the news agency reported.
