Johnson responds to Sunak's resignation

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson responded on Tuesday to his Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak's resignation with an open letter in which he praised the latter's "advice and deep commitment to public service" and stressed he will "miss working with you in government."

Johnson highlighted the job retention scheme Sunak implemented during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and his budget policies as the main achievements of the chancellor's tenure. "Through all this, you have not shied from the tough decisions needed to repair our public finances whilst protecting public services and boosting economic growth," Johnson's statement read.

Earlier in the day, Sunak, along with Health Secretary Sajid Javid, resigned from their positions, with the former highlighting he based his decision on his view of the country's economy, which is "fundamentally different" from Johnson's stance.
