United States House Speaker Mike Johnson said he felt optimistic after meeting with Senate Republican Leader John Thune on budget reconciliation.
Johnson told reporters that the House and Senate are becoming more aligned on spending cuts, and he believes the two chambers are "getting very close." He mentioned that discussions have gained momentum but highlighted that some details remain unresolved.
He also said there is strong agreement on President Donald Trump's proposed tax cuts and suggested Senate Republicans may be open to including a debt limit increase in the reconciliation package.
