The judge overseeing United States President-elect Donald Trump's election interference case has dismissed the case, thus granting special counsel Jack Smith's request.

US District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan granted Smith's motion just hours after it was filed. Smith moved earlier Monday to dismiss Trump's election interference case due to a long-standing Justice Department policy that prohibits the prosecution of a sitting president.

Earlier today, the Justice Department also officially dropped charges against Trump over his classified documents case.
