A federal appeals court confirmed United States District Court for the District of Columbia Chief Judge Beryl Howell's order that former US President Donald Trump's attorney Evan Corcoran testify before a federal grand jury as part of the Special Counsel Jack Smith's classified documents investigation, American media reported on Wednesday.
According to reports, Howell ruled that Corcoran, who had handled contacts between Trump and authorities over the controversial documents, is not protected by the attorney-client privilege and that he should comply with a grand jury subpoena for testimony. "Prosecutors only attack lawyers when they have no case whatsoever," Trump's campaign said in a statement.
In addition to Trump's handling of classified government documents, Smith is also investigating the Republican politician's role in the January 2021 riots at the US Capitol.
