European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said on Wednesday that Russia "wants war" and that Ukraine's allies must put pressure on it "so it wants peace." She stressed that Ukraine urgently needs large-caliber ammunition and that the EU intends to provide 2 million rounds this year. She said funds have been secured for around 50% of that amount, conceding that the "main obstacle" is funding, but noting that more and more member states are announcing more military aid.
Kallas added that Ukraine will soon receive €1.4 billion from proceeds from frozen Russian assets. A second tranche worth €2.1 billion will be delivered gradually from the end of this month, with the bulk of the proceeds going toward Ukraine's defense industry.
